Gallery Switch

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Hello Boys and Girls,

If you’ve been a client of mine for at least a year, chances are you have a gallery on my old gallery site. I’ve switched to a new and cooler site, which I love. (and so do my clients I hear!!) So I will not be renewing my subscription to the old one. So if you have a gallery up there, you may want to look through it again and make sure there isn’t anything you want printed. Your files can still be accessed through me…but I am in the process of archiving everything on that site. Once it is archived, there will be a small retrieval fee for finding whatever it is that you would like. :)

My subscription is up at the end of February. In case you miss the old gallery cut off, you can still retrieve your files through me, but all files will be archived by April 1st. (so after that, the retrieval fee will apply.)

In case you are not sure where your gallery is hosted, I’ve added a shot of the welcome page to refresh your memory.

If you have been married for over 2 years, or are a studio client and would like to purchase your images on disk, please email me, and we will discuss the details.

As always, if you have any questions, please email/call me, and I’ll help ya’ out!

Happy New Year!!

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Hope everyone had a great holiday and a happy and safe new year! This year is already shaping up to be awesome!
I’m not really one to believe in New Year’s resolutions, but if I was to make one, it would be to blog more. I’m so incredibly horrible at this! Well, it can’t get any worse, so it can only get better. :) So I figure to help me keep blogging I’ll be writing about Lyrical Lens, helpful wedding and photo tips, and whats going on at home too. :) I have 3 girls and a husband of 15 years, so there has to be something amusing there, right? Haha, I guess we’ll see…won’t we?

We have a bunch of great things happening…And lots of new products, and services coming out as well. So keep checking back!

Till next time,

Sarrah + Colin E-Session Fun!

Saturday, June 11th, 2011

While we were out shooting Sarrah and Colin’s engagement shoot I decided to do something a little different as a surprise for them. (And Sarrah even said I was mean for not even giving her a hint…) hahaha. But I’d do it all over again because their reaction was so funny I could hardly contain myself…and to think I just did this one messing around, trying it out for fun. And they loved it!

I have to thank Dave Krevalin (www.DKproent.com) for coming to hang out and  shooting some video. And Nikki Boone for coming along and shooting with me! (<3 u guys!)

If you missed the last installment of Sarrah and Colin’s shoot you can catch it here: http://blog.lyricallens.com/2011/06/10/colin-sarrah-e-session/

This is part one of 2….

Enjoy.

Seminar Love

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

The last couple months has been so crazy and mind blowing. I attended a bunch of seminars through the CT PPA that were awesome. It’s great to follow photographers who’s work who I admire, and that totally inspire me. But, listening to those same photographers in person…is really so amazing, and even more inspiring. I’m not even sure I can explain it. It was awesome to have the reassurance that the things I’ve been wanting to do for so long (and was told that it wasn’t “proper business conduct”)…I was actually correct in where I wanted my business to go. Sometimes you just have to put on your big girl bathing suit, plug your nose, and jump in!

And to top it all off, it was great to spend time with other CT photographers, to talk shop and share ideas. (it’s scary…but many photographers don’t like to network.) I loved meeting new friends…it was just an amazing experience. I’m still buzzing. (and still going through tons and tons of notes…) :)

I won’t bore you with all the gory details…But it was just a great learning experience, not only business-wise, but personally as well. Both Justin and Mary Marantz and Zach and Jody Gray are such amazing photographers, and it was interesting to listen to how they each work their marketing, and their client experiences. And how it works for each of them.  They also helped us understand how we  can implement  the things they do in our business as well. :)

I have been following Jasmine Star for awhile now (I’m a huge fan)….her images are amazing. She’s smart, funny, and easy to relate to. I was so excited to hear her speak. ( Yes, the happy dance was done. My kids can attest to the dorkyness of it all….) She changed my whole outlook on my job, my business and my way of thinking. I came out of her seminar on cloud nine…so excited, that I could barely speak. I called a close friend and talked a mile a minute until I couldn’t breathe anymore. Then blabbed some more! :) (And this is my favorite picture!!! :)

THEN….I took one of my new associates (Nikki) to see Sandy Puc and Jerry Ghionis. (She had a great time…and I was happy that she went with me!!) I’ve seen Sandy 5 times, learning a ton of new stuff every time. That woman is a marketing genius!  :) Jerry is one of the top 5 wedding photographers in the world. (Again, a huge fan!) Listening to him talk was easy. He did a great job talking about how to make every bride look and feel beautiful. And he also talked about changing the way you think, and how it will result in more amazing images. (and his wife is beautiful and super sweet!)

I love to learn…If I ever get to the place where I think I know it all, then I should quit my job. I love trying new things. I love my job. I love my clients. <3

I also learned that I’m a horrible blogger!! And I’m trying to get better at that! :)

‘Till next time…

A Shot In The Dark

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Lighting is really popular right now. Done correctly, architectural lighting (also called uplighting) can add great color and ambiance to your wedding reception. Dance lighting or a color wash on the dance floor can make for more interesting reception images.  But for some photographers it can be an absolute nightmare. By my talking to other photographers, I’ve learned that many hate the dance lighting, and have even asked for the DJ to turn it off.

It’s a balancing act really. The photographer you choose should be flexible enough to deal with the changing light conditions, and creative enough to use the light to their advantage. Your photographer should be able to wash out the color when the situation calls for it. But they should also be able to use the light to keep the ambiance and overall feel of the room that you paid for.

The best way to make sure that a photographer can work in different lighting situations is to watch for many images of reception lighting in the portfolio of the photographer you meet with. The more images in their portfolio the better the feel that you can get for their ability to shoot in different situations.

So if you are even thinking about having  lighting at your wedding, make sure that the photographer you choose can correctly capture the wedding reception that you dreamed.

The Best Backyard Wedding!

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

I had the pleasure of photographing the cutest couple last month!  They had the best backyard wedding…and we all had a blast! We had dance lighting, and music videos (and it was a great party!!)  My favorite DJ did a great job (as usual) tailoring the day to the couple. It’s a great feeling when I work with someone who has the Bride and Groom’s wants and needs ahead of their own.  And, as a bonus, I loved that I got to ditch my classic wedding photographer outfit and go with something a little more relaxed!  Had a awesome time….many thanks to Val and Jeremy for letting me be a part of their day!!♥

Prom!!

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Well, it’s prom season, again! My sister had her’s and I thought that I’d be fun to shoot her getting ready. All I have to say is “when did she grow up?”  I really am proud of the woman she is becoming! :)

CT PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS ASSOCIATION

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

My application was accepted! I am formally a member of the CT PPA!  Whats that mean for you?

Well being a member of the CT PPA will:

• Help improve my photographic skills

• Help improve my business skills

• Networking with fellow photographers

I’m already been a member of the Professional Photographers of America, which is the national association. Now I have even more support on the local level. I’m so excited about this, because staying up-to-date in this industry takes effort. I’m always learning, and changing,  thats the way I want it. I don’t ever want to say that I know everything…then I will no longer be evolving. It’s really just another way for me to improve my craft, which will benefit my clients!!

Also, if you have been keeping up with our Facebook fan page….you know that there are some changes coming!! I will be launching a lot of new stuff over the next week or so….I’m so excited, and can’t wait to show it all to you!! So keep an eye out…it’s gonna be awesome! :)

Till then,
